Funny how most shutterbugs stop after one shot. If its a once in a lifetime shot, an exceptionally cozy moment, or a beautiful place you will never visit again, why not take a couple of different variations of the same photo. It will be worth it if you have to throw away a couple of prints but get one real good one. If you have a digital camera, you have no excuse, since each shot is free. You can preview the images and print only the good ones.
If you have a great idea like this, why would you take one quick shot and be done with it? Be sure and take different poses from two or three different vantage points. Here the photographer had several shots to choose from and picked the one that had the proper level of intensity in the boy’s face. A photo like this is destined to be displayed proudly on your wall.
True, there are some drawbacks. You may irritate your kids or really have to be patient with your pet, but I promise you it will be well worth it. I have friends who have protested that I spent too much time taking vacation photographs, but loved those pictures once we got them back. Make sure you get some different poses and backgrounds. Try to inspire your model to try some different facial expressions, and take enough shots to ensure you get a good one without blinking eyes. If you are going to take some good photos, you are going to have to impose on your subjects every once in a while. You will know when enough is enough.
Next we will look at how your subjects can “Dress for Success”.
